Link Line now available across the West Midlands
An award winning telephone service set up over seven years ago in Wolverhampton providing a regular contact for those whose health, mobility or circumstances could put their quality of life at risk, is now available across the West Midlands and Staffordshire.As a registered charity Link Line is a non-profit making social enterprise supporting local communities. For as little as £2.50 each week, Link Line is available 24 hours a day 365 days a year. It is the friendly voice there when it is most needed - day or night there is always someone to talk to. Link Line also helps with getting to medical or other appointments or with emergency shopping. The number of those over 50 is set to increase and we are all affected, either because we have parents who are becoming elderly or we ourselves are growing older. Generally we have a better life style and improved health, which has resulted in people living longer. Coupled to this a steady reduction in the birth rate in recent years means that there are fewer family and friends in a position to help and take care of people as they get older. Link Line has seen a steady rise in the number of members who have their subscriptions paid by their next of kin, a son or daughter for example, who cannot always be there when they are needed. They have peace of mind knowing someone like Link Line can keep in touch with their loved ones. What started as a local church project in Bilston in 2001 has grown beyond Wolverhampton. Tracy Scarrett, Finance and Admin Manager, said “members subscribe to Link Line for a variety of reasons; they really do appreciate our calls and someone to talk to, particularly when they are at their loneliest often at weekends or during the night”.
